College Alc
EFFICACY RESULTS
An independent evaluation conducted by the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation (PIRE) randomly assigned incoming first-year students at a mid-sized university to a College Alc group or a control group.
Relative to the control group, students who completed College Alc reported:
- Increased knowledge of alcohol use and its effects
- An increase in negative alcohol expectancies
- Increased intentions to minimize alcohol-related harm (for self and/or friends)
Among drinkers, students who completed College Alc reported:
- Decreased positive attitudes toward alcohol use
- A decrease in high-risk drinking (5 or more drinks in one sitting for males, 4 or more for females)
- Decreased frequency of getting drunk (past 30 days)
