AlcoholEdu® for Sanctions: View the Course

AlcoholEdu for Sanctions incorporates features that meet the specific needs of college judicial and disciplinary programs, helping students avoid repeat alcohol violations. The course includes evidence-based prevention methods, learner-centered pedagogy, up-to-date science-based content, and a carefully customized user experience to inspire students to reflect on and consider changing their drinking decisions.

Surveys and knowledge tests. The course collects data on students' alcohol-related knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors at three points in time during the AlcoholEdu for Sanctions experience. All attitude and behavior data is completely confidential, and your data is delivered online, allowing you to analyze it as you see fit.

Science-based content. Course content, developed using the latest research about alcohol's effects on the mind and body, is disseminated in four modules. A 30- to 60-day "intersession" between modules 3 and 4 allows students time to integrate recommended prevention strategies with their own experiences involving alcohol before completing the final module.

Multi-pronged personalization. Customized course pathways based on each student's drinking patterns and sex provide a highly relevant and meaningful experience. Additional personalization later in the program uses the Alcohol Risk Transition Algorithm to link students' readiness to change over time with consumption patterns - a breakthrough approach pioneered by Outside The Classroom.

Journaling. The course presents open-ended, objective journaling prompts that ask students to reflect on their experiences and views about alcohol and then responds with appropriate and reinforcing feedback. The course also offers students a "Personal Plan" tool that helps students put practical strategies into action..

Evidence-based prevention strategies. The course incorporates evidence-based prevention strategies, including personalized feedback, motivational interviewing, expectancy theory, and normative feedback - strategies recommended by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA).

Interactive exercises and student guides. Interactive exercises included throughout the course reinforce key content and help students apply what they've learned to their own lives. In addition, students can choose a student guide that stays with them throughout the course and helps pace the experience for them

Screening tool. The course incorporates the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT), a tool developed by the World Health Organization, to help students assess their own drinking behavior.

Test out and opt out. The course acknowledges students' previous learning, allowing them to "test out" of certain sections. Students can also "opt out" of certain non-compulsory sections of the course. These options provide a satisfying, streamlined user experience.
