2006-2007 Student Voices on Alcohol Contributors

Outside The Classroom is pleased to introduce the four contributors to Student Voices on Alcohol!

Esther Hwang, University of California - Berkeley
A sophomore at University of California - Berkeley, Esther intends to major in Business Administration and minor in Art Practice. At UC-Berkeley, Esther is involved in Habitat for Humanity and is a Behavioral Economics Research Aide. In her free time, Esther enjoys creating art, reading, traveling, eating, and eating while reading or doing art. Esther was the winner of the 2005-2006 AlcoholEdu Essay Competition.

Kate Frankola, Tulane University
After spending her first semester of college at Carnegie Mellon University due to Hurricane Katrina, Kate returned to Tulane University for the second semester of her freshman year. Now a sophomore, Kate is majoring in Neuroscience and minoring in English with hopes of attending medical school after graduation. Kate is also involved with Peer Health Advocates of Tulane (PHAT), the Tulane Catholic Center, and the on-campus recreation center, Reily, where she often works as a lifeguard. Kate's interests include reading, recreational swimming and tennis, spending every possible second outdoors, and partying. Kate was a runner-up in the 2005-2006 AlcoholEdu Essay Competition.

Michael Shannon, Columbia University
Michael was born in Gaithersburg, MD, an Aquarius. As a kid, he frequented Discovery Zone and was a good friend of one David Gang. Now a sophomore at Columbia University, he resides in New York City in a 330 square foot dorm room where he enjoys playing guitar, writing for his school newspaper, and listening to Joy Division. He intends to pursue journalism as a career. Michael was a runner-up in the 2005-2006 AlcoholEdu Essay Competition.

Vera Simon-Nobes, University of Vermont
Vera is currently a sophomore at University of Vermont. Originally from Vermont, Vera plans to major in sociology and minor in environmental studies. Vera is a correspondent for UVM's newspaper, plays club field hockey, and volunteers at a Dads and Kids Group. She enjoys hiking, traveling, cooking, and being outside. Vera was a runner-up in the 2005-2006 AlcoholEdu Essay Competition.
