Frostburg State University

A leader in prevention education, Frostburg State University has integrated AlcoholEdu as the cornerstone of its first-year experience prevention curriculum.

"Binge drinking and other high-risk alcohol consumption can be a major problem for young men and women, especially early in their college careers," said Tom Bowling, Associate Vice President for Student and Educational Services at Frostburg State University. "By incorporating AlcoholEdu's online format into our required orientation course, the University will strengthen our preemptive alcohol education to all our first-year students."

Implementing the AlcoholEdu course for all first-year students is an important initiative in the comprehensive program Frostburg State University has developed to address the issue of high-risk drinking. In addition to AlcoholEdu, the university also has implemented other prevention programs including substance-free housing, a peer educator program, a social norms program, educational activities and a parental notification policy.

Founded in 1898, Frostburg State University is the only four-year institution of the University System of Maryland west of the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area.

Frostburg State offers an array of undergraduate and graduate degrees emphasizing arts and humanities, applied technologies, business, education, environmental studies, human services and social and behavioral sciences. The University is an integral component in regional development initiatives and also is nationally recognized for its community service and leadership programs. Regional centers in Hagerstown and Frederick, Maryland, serve upper-division undergraduate students in several programs and master's degree students in business, recreation and education.

The University draws its diverse student body from all counties of Maryland, nearby states and a growing number of international countries.
