Boston, Mass. - September 8, 2003 - Hobbs Group/Kirklin & Co, LLC., a provider of insurance and educational programs for social and professional fraternal organizations, today announced its endorsement of Outside The Classroom's AlcoholEdu, the leading online alcohol prevention program, recommending the program to all collegiate Greek-letter organizations.
"AlcoholEdu has proven itself as an effective tool for fighting high-risk alcohol consumption among college students - especially in fraternity environments - prompting reductions in alcohol consumption, decreases in risky behaviors and increases in protective behaviors," said Ned Kirklin, President of Hobbs Group/Kirklin & Co. "We are pleased to put the Hobbs Group/Kirklin & Co seal of approval on what we know can only help fraternities leverage the strength of their social networks to improve drinking behaviors."
As part of this endorsement, Hobbs Group/Kirklin & Co's liability clients will receive a discount on AlcoholEdu.
AlcoholEdu is a customized, two-and-one-half-hour course that students complete in the privacy of their own rooms. It provides updated research- and science-based education in a non-opinionated format, emphasizing the medical and social effects of drinking and the many factors that influence our decisions about whether, when and how much to drink. The course engages students in thinking seriously about the effects of alcohol on their academic performance, health and relationships, empowering them to make better decisions. Pre-, post- and follow-up surveys demonstrate that students who take AlcoholEdu modify their behavior in positive ways, especially when all the students in a college class or organization take the course at the same time-a practice known as "population-level prevention."
"Our research has shown that AlcoholEdu has its best results when given to all members of a tight-knit group, like Greek-letter organizations," said Brandon Busteed, Founder and CEO of Outside The Classroom. "We are thrilled to be working with Hobbs Group/Kirklin & Co. They are an organization dedicated to getting results, and they understand that AlcoholEdu is a tool that reduces alcohol-related insurance claims. Working together, we're going to go a long way towards a safer, smarter Greek world."
