Chico, CA - November 26, 2001 - California Sate University, Chico, announced today that they have adopted AlcoholEduTM, an online science-based alcohol education course, for use this fall with multiple student populations, including athletic groups, Greek organizations, and policy offenders. Chico is one of the first universities in the California state system to offer students an online alcohol course.
“Over the years, CSU, Chico has proactively addressed the issue of alcohol in a comprehensive manner through education, intervention, prevention and enforcement. The university is constantly seeking new, promising approaches to help students achieve well-balanced lifestyles,” said Dr. Paul Moore, Vice President of Student Affairs, CSU, Chico.
Independent analysis of survey data from AlcoholEdu’s built-in assessment tools indicates that students who complete the course demonstrate significant improvements in knowledge, attitudes and behaviors. Furthermore, many prominent organizations including MADD, The Education Development Center’s National Center for College Health and Safety, and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) have endorsed AlcoholEdu as an effective measure for curbing high-risk drinking.
“While most universities are well aware that alcohol is the number one drug problem among young people, many continue to struggle with how to minimize the associated risks. CSU, Chico’s innovative approach to reducing campus alcohol problems sets them apart as true leaders in academia, and we are very excited to be working with them in our joint mission to promote safe and healthy campus environments,” said Brandon Busteed, Founder and CEO of Outside The Classroom, Inc., a Boston-based education company.
AlcoholEdu’s interactive course provides institutions with the most effective way of educating students with a one-on-one, classroom-like learning experience. A flexible web-based format also affords students the convenience and freedom to access the course on their own time, in their own location, without the scheduling and other hassles associated with most traditional programs.
