BOSTON - September 12, 2006 Outside The Classroom, the leading provider of online alcohol prevention programs, and CAMPUSPEAK, the premier agency providing educational speakers and programs for college campuses and organizations, announced today that the two companies have partnered to provide coordinated alcohol prevention programming for colleges, universities, and Greek organizations. Through this partnership, the two companies have developed AlcoholEdu® Facilitation Sessions, which give institutions and organizations an exclusive opportunity to host small group discussions designed specifically for students who have completed Outside The Classroom's AlcoholEdu for College prevention program.
"AlcoholEdu's impact is proven, and we are thrilled to be able to partner with Outside The Classroom to offer follow-up programs and in-depth discussion for students who have completed the online program," said Tracy Maxwell, Executive Director of CAMPUSPEAK. "These interactive programs should further strengthen the information students have already received."
During AlcoholEdu Facilitation Sessions, CAMPUSPEAK's professional facilitators will lead students in small group discussions about college drinking, including decision-making, care-taking, and impacting campus culture. All sessions will provide seamless coordination with AlcoholEdu, relying on key course strategies and concepts as the basis for discussion.
All AlcoholEdu Facilitation Sessions are led by professional facilitators who have been certified by Outside The Classroom. Most facilitators come from a higher education background, and have been selected based on their outstanding facilitation skills and knowledge of higher education.
"There is no silver bullet when it comes to prevention, and truly effective programs require a coordinated, comprehensive approach," Brandon Busteed, Founder and CEO of Outside The Classroom, said. "We are pleased to offer our clients the opportunity to expand their prevention efforts in a way that continues to engage students while reinforcing the key concepts and strategies presented in AlcoholEdu."
Alcohol prevention on our nation's college campuses is critically important. According to a March 2005 report from the National Institute of Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse (NIAAA), the problem of college drinking exceeds previous estimates. The report cites more than 1700 alcohol-related deaths and 2.8 million cases of driving under the influence among college students in 2001. Previous estimates also suggest 500,000 injuries, 70,000 sexual assaults, and 159,000 first-year student dropouts due to alcohol and other drugs every year.
