Organization receives recognition for Best Corporate Social Responsibility Program

Stevie Award

BOSTON, MA - July 8, 2009 - Outside The Classroom won a Stevie Award for Best Corporate Social Responsibility Program in the 2009 American Business Awards -- the nation's premier business awards program. The Stevies recognize the achievements of entire companies and their contributions to society. The awards were presented during ceremonies at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City on June 22. The ceremonies were hosted by Cheryl Casone of Fox Business Network and broadcast nationwide on radio by the Business TalkRadio Network.

More than 2,600 entries from companies of all sizes and in virtually every industry were submitted for consideration in more than 40 categories, including Most Innovative Company, Best Management Team, Best New Product or Service, and Best Corporate Environmental Responsibility Program. In winning the Stevie, Outside The Classroom beat out other finalists Credit Solutions, Daimler Financial Services, EMD Serono, High Performance Technologies, Intelius, Pioneer Financial Services, and Reliv International.

For nearly a decade, Outside The Classroom has been the national leader in online alcohol prevention. The company's flagship program, AlcoholEdu®, is used on hundreds of campuses and by 36 percent of all first-year college students -- becoming a critical building block for addressing the high-risk drinking epidemic. More than 1.7 million students have taken the program, providing the world's largest database on college students and alcohol. Outside The Classroom has a strong track record of effectiveness in changing students' alcohol-related attitudes and behaviors, as evidenced by results from recent randomized control studies conducted at Villanova University and University of West Florida. The organization has also created a version of AlcoholEdu developed specifically for today's high school students.

Outside The Classroom's mission extends well beyond AlcoholEdu. In 2008, the organization donated $75,000 to students, practitioners, presidents, institutions, and Greek organizations, in recognition of their dedication to improving alcohol prevention efforts on their campuses. In 2009, Outside The Classroom launched an innovative new service to address pervasive issues still challenging the field of alcohol prevention and help institutions develop campus-wide solutions to these challenges. More than 30 institutions and Greek organizations have already joined The Alcohol Prevention Coalition in an effort to end the epidemic of high-risk drinking among college students.

"This is a great honor for each and every one of us at Outside The Classroom," said Brandon Busteed, Founder and CEO of Outside The Classroom. "We have built this organization on the idea that doing good and doing well MUST be an imperative, not just a disjointed second thought. Corporate responsibility is part of our DNA and our EBITDA."

More than 200 executives across the country participated in the judging process to determine the Finalists and Stevie Award winners.

"Despite very tough economic conditions, many organizations and individuals continue to perform well," said Michael Gallagher, founder and president of The Stevie Awards. "The results of the 2009 ABAs thus far are a testament to the resilience, creativity, and hard work of American organizations, executives, and workers."
