Outside The Classroom Media Competition
CREATE AND SUBMIT A VIDEO DOCUMENTARY OF CAMPUS LIFE
The 2009-2010 Media Competition is now closed. Check back soon for the winning entries!
Submission Deadline
Submissions must be received no later than Friday, April 9, 2010!
Students wishing to compete in the video documentary category of the Outside The Classroom Media Competition should film a 3-10 minute documentary covering the role alcohol does (or doesn't) play on college campuses.
Not sure what to cover in your film? Consider the following ideas:
- The impact of drinking or dangerous drinking habits on the student experience. Specifically, the effect on student engagement (student participation in clubs, community service, activities on/off campus, etc.), academics and study habits, a “party school image”, or social issues, such as “fitting in” and dating/relationships on campus.
- Current alcohol policy and education efforts on college campuses. Do students support current campus policies? Are students interested in education efforts? Do students play an active role in education efforts and new policy formation? Why or why not?
- Campus interviews. Interview different people about their perceptions on the role of alcohol on campus. See what students know (or don’t know) about alcohol – the facts (standard drink, definition of BAC, etc.) and the social norms (numbers of students who drink/don’t drink). Do students consider high-risk drinking to be a real problem on campus? Why or why not? What do they think could/ should be done about it?
