At Outside The Classroom, our mission is to provide institutions with the tools, resources, and insights they need to reduce alcohol-related risk and the health, safety, and financial costs associated with it . Our research team is deeply committed to sharing these insights with the field at large, with the ultimate vision of ending the epidemic of high-risk drinking on America’s college campuses.
Using Alcohol-Free Options to Promote a Healthy Campus Environment
This report is the first of the publication series featuring insights gathered from Outside The Classroom’s research effort, The Alcohol Prevention Coalition.
The report stems from The Coalition’s groundbreaking effort to assess both the cost and impact of a variety of prevention strategies, called the Alcohol Prevention Compass. While the Alcohol Prevention Compass addresses 22 distinct alcohol prevention strategies, Using Alcohol-Free Options provides in-depth analysis of one strategy alone—offering alcohol-free activities to college students to deter their drinking. Specifically, it presents:
-
efficacy research on offering alcohol-free options,
-
best practices for implementation to maximize impact, and
-
strategies for overcoming common challenges faced by campuses employing this approach
