Since his presidency began in 2006, Dr. Gibralter has actively partnered with students, campus administrators, and other community agencies to address alcohol abuse, especially with regard to underage, high-risk drinking. Dr. Gibralter provided support for student-led initiatives and was personally involved in bringing together on- and off-campus law enforcement agencies that led to a dramatic improvement in the sharing of information. As a result, the alcohol issue is no longer viewed as a perennial source of contention between the university and the city of Frostburg. Instead, community leaders now partner with University officials in order to change the culture of alcohol abuse on both the campus and community levels.
