Partner Education Team

Outside The Classroom's Partner Education Team, composed of seasoned researchers, analysts, industry experts, and alcohol prevention professionals, is the "think-tank" behind The Alcohol Prevention Coalition. This diverse group conducts large-scale research initiatives and employs in-depth interviews, deductive analysis, financial modeling, and trend tracking to unearth key insights and identify progressive practices related to alcohol prevention.

William DeJong, Ph.D.

Executive Director, Research and Analysis
Dr. DeJong oversees new research projects utilizing collected data, course development, and the analysis of Outside The Classroom courses. Previously, Dr. DeJong served as director of the U.S. Department of Education's Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention (HEC) from 1995-2004. Under his direction, the HEC emerged as the nation's primary training and technical assistance resource for helping institutions of higher education develop, implement, and evaluate programs and policies for alcohol and other drug prevention on campus. He also served as director of the Center for College Health and Safety, based at Education Development Center, Inc., from 2000-2005. He continues to serve as a senior advisor to both centers. Over the past 28 years he has been widely recognized for his work in substance abuse prevention, health education, technology transfer, strategic planning, and program evaluation. In recognition of his work, he was awarded the first College Leadership Award by the American Public Health Association's Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Section in 2000. In addition to his role at Outside The Classroom, Dr. DeJong is a Professor in the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the Boston University School of Public Health, where he teaches courses in intervention planning, program evaluation, and health communications. In 2007, Dr. DeJong was awarded the School's Norman A. Scotch Award for Excellence in Teaching. He is the author of over 300 monographs, book chapters, and academic papers in substance abuse prevention, health promotion, criminal justice, social psychology, and the use of media to change social norms and behaviors.

Helen Stubbs

Senior Director, Partner Education
Helen Stubbs came to Outside The Classroom to help launch the Alcohol Prevention Coalition, disseminating research and best practices in campus alcohol prevention. The Coalition serves as the foundation for OTC’s position as a thought leader in the field, with research and tools that enable campus administrators to evaluate and improve upon their alcohol prevention efforts. In the development and delivery of Coalition products and services, Helen provides campuses with tailored support that examines their data and marries it to the national research on effective prevention practice. Prior to OTC, Helen most recently served as associate director for the Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse and Violence Prevention and the Center for College Health and Safety, both based at Education Development Center. Helen came to Outside The Classroom having worked extensively in the non-profit sector, from women’s health to international health, to public health communications. Helen holds a B.A. in psychology from the University of Vermont and earned a Masters degree from Harvard School of Public Health, where she focused on the prevention of high-risk behaviors among youth and health communications.

Kimberley Timpf

Director, Prevention Practice Management
Kimberley Timpf has more than 15 years experience in the alcohol and other drug prevention field, having worked at both public and private universities. Her expertise lies in program design and development, application of prevention theory in higher education settings, training and instruction, and methods of evaluation. Prior to Outside The Classroom, Ms. Timpf served as the Assistant Dean for Alcohol and Drug Education at Boston College, recognized nationally for its alcohol and drug prevention program. Ms. Timpf holds a Master's degree in Educational Administration from Boston College, and has served as chair of the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) Commission for Alcohol and Other Drug Issues and as a state coordinator for the BACCHUS Peer Education Network. She has presented at ACPA Conventions, the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Conference, BACCHUS General Assemblies, and Department of Education National Meetings, and was a part-time faculty member in the School of Education at Boston College.

Lauren Wooley

Analyst, Partner Education
Prior to joining the Partner Education team at Outside The Classroom, Ms. Wooley worked as a Strategy Analyst at Digitas where she was responsible for driving strategic thinking and insights. She holds a B.S. from the College of Charleston and a Masters in Public Health from The Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. While in school at Emory, Lauren worked at the CDC and the VA Medical Center. After graduating, Ms. Wooley continued her education in the field of Epidemiology by participating in a fellowship at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health where she created reports to assess the health status in Massachusetts.

Todd M. Wyatt

Director, Research
Doctoral Candidate, George Mason University Department of Psychology
Todd Wyatt oversees the collection, analysis, implementation and dissemination of data for Outside The Classroom. In addition to his work with Outside The Classroom, Mr. Wyatt is a doctoral candidate in Developmental Psychology from George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. Mr. Wyatt brings with him extensive experience with leading large-scale research initiatives and a proficiency in using cutting-edge statistical analysis techniques, which are used to address the substance abuse challenges that face America’s high-school and college campuses. His research interests range from child development to the implications of substance abuse for social and academic success in adolescence and early adulthood. Mr. Wyatt is the author of numerous academic papers and book chapters that focus on development, self-regulation, social-emotional development and substance use prevention.

Marcie Groller

E-Learning Project Manager, Partner Education
Since graduating from college in 2005, Ms. Groller has pursued her interests in education and learning technologies. Ms. Groller earned a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in Communications and Hispanic Studies. After graduation, she worked at Annenberg's Children's Media Lab, analyzing the educational impact of technology on today's youth. Ms. Groller explored her education interests further, obtaining a Masters of Education from Harvard's Technology, Innovation and Education Program. In 2007, Ms. Groller joined Outside The Classroom as a member of the Curriculum Team. After a year developing online products for students-AlcoholEdu for College and GreekLifeEdu- Ms. Groller joined the Partner Education team, bringing her knowledge of alcohol education and informed perspective on college students to the efforts of The Alcohol Prevention Coalition.

Devon Lancaster

Director, Student Engagement
Devon Lancaster has been working in the education, technology, research and consulting industries since 1996, focusing exclusively in higher education since 2004. Most recently, Ms. Lancaster has been leading the design and development of Outside The Classroom's online learning programs for students, faculty, and institutional staff members. Prior to joining Outside The Classroom, she worked as a market research consultant for companies such as The Yankee Group and Eduventures, where she conducted research, advised management on strategic initiatives, and authored several publications about education. In her work as a consultant within Accenture's People Enablement practice, Ms. Lancaster focused on finding creative, cost effective ways to build employee capabilities and share information across the healthcare and financial services industries. She is passionate about finding innovative ways to help people learn and communicate and has extensive experience leading advisory boards, community groups, and workshops. Ms. Lancaster earned her B.A. in Economics from The College of the Holy Cross and a Masters in Education from Boston University.

David L. Wyrick, PhD

Senior Advisor for Research and Development
Dr. Wyrick earned a B.S. in Exercise and Sports Science from Elon University (1994), his M.P.H. in Public Health Education from UNC Greensboro (1998), and his Ph.D. in Educational Research Methodology from UNC Greensboro (2002). Presently an Associate Professor of Public Health Education, he has received more than a dozen NIH funded grants and was recently awarded funding from UNCG through the BELL initiative to develop a new graduate course in Public Health Education titled “Promoting and Protecting Health through Entrepreneurship.” Dr. Wyrick also serves as the Chair for the Early Career Preventionist Network, as a member of the Board of Directors for the Society for Prevention Research, a member of various review groups for NIH, a reviewer for the journal Prevention Science, and as an expert consultant for various groups including the NCAA, Be Active, NC, NCAAHPERD, and the National Center for Drug Free Sport. Dr. Wyrick is also the founder and President of Prevention Strategies, LLC, an official affiliate of UNCG. With a deep concern for the community and the welfare of adolescents and young adults, he informs his thinking and acting with the findings of prevention research and creates programs and curricula that improve the quality of life for others. For example, he has created web-based programs targeting alcohol and other drugs that are being used by approximately 150 universities around the country. Dr. Wyrick lives with his wife, Cheryl, and three daughters, Katherine, Caroline, and Elizabeth in Greensboro, NC.
